Push button 4WD:
#13
Well guys,
I found out that the button does put the bike in AWD it was just the light not lighting up when it was engaged. I have another problem. When my AWD is not engaged I have the rear tires spinning and the front right spinning also. This does not sound like 2WD to me. Is this normal on a 1995 Polaris Scrambler 400? What can I do about it?
Thanks,
Kevino

no.no.no.no.and no. its all electrical. here's whats happening. there is not enough power to run with lights and 4wd and anything else ya got on plus the spark. dirty stators. no charhe to bat from alternator while running. i still keep my bat on my 2000 scram 400 4x4 just for 4wd. need power to run i have a starter block off from HSP and pull start it every time ( still starts first pull even in zero weather w/ 1/2 choke) Anyways the hubs are electrical. takes current to engage em' i couldn't get my flywheel of even after borrowing a flywheel puller from the dealer, ( my impact wrench aint got the power. ) so i took purple power degreaser and sprayed behind the flywheel and through the holes in it to clean the gook off the stators ( i run through some nasty muddy crap only cause nothing can stop this 4x4 sport and i have to show off somehow when riding with raptors and z400's whgo wont touch the stuff ).
Also check your bat charge. Im sure this is you're problem though. Id put money on it. Buy a new bat but don't waste money on some cheap immitation Advance Auto Bat Get the stock polaris one. Youll see on cold days that thing has some cranking amps to it. Good Luck!!!!!

i am also having trouble with 4x4 on my 01 sportsman 500. my speedo stopped working and i think it could be related. the power wire for 4x4 switch comes out of the speedo and i am only getting about 4 volts {i also have a new battery} out of it. i am sure there should 12 volts but my service manual does not specify. i will try to bypass the speedo soon and let you in on any results.

I was having a similar problem or so I think, after I hit a rock with the right side it will not engage into 4wd. Only the left wheel engages so its like 3 wheel drive. I tried re-wiring it, and changing the fluid, Neither worked, Im at a loss.. Did you have any luck yet?

I have the same problem what did you find out???Thanks in advance...
Here is my situation. Bought the 2001 magnum 325 from an eighty year old man last year and have nothing but a head ake from it since, I use the bike for plowing snow
The problem is with the awd it is a intermitting problem happens some times and not others???????? After plowing for 20 min the awd light goes out and also the awd,, I have change the hub fluid and no change also changed the batterie no change checked for loose wires cand find any ,,took the trans switches apart cleaned and reassembled no change. Handle bar switch cleaned put back no change..
I have no speedo on this bike.
Two question can I bypass most of the switches and electrical and run awd all the time?? ( i want to fix it so I can sell it!!!) Will the reverse override switch cause this problem if so will it effect the awd in forward??can I bypass this switch if so how? I have tried to find the answers but not getting anywhere..
once again ty

Hey guys your problem with the intermittent AWD switch problem is in the transmission shifter switch. Very common problem. Power runs from the trans switch to the AWD switch. If in N or the switch isn't working right it thinks it's in Neutral it will not send any power to the AWD switch. You can bypass this simply by connecting the RED/w wire and the gray/w wire together. You can find these wires at the shifter box. There will be 4 wires that run to it, including those I motioned. I hope this helps.
