i went riding today with my cousin who just bought a 2001 yamaha kodiak. I must say that it is a good working atv. When we found a big mud hole i got burried on my Sportsman. So he thought he would try to pull me out. when we got the rope hooked on my bike he tried to pull it out in reverse and it wouldn't even spin the tires, it would just sit there and hesitate. Do any other Kodiak riders have this problem. Is it fixable. Other then that problem it is a flawless atv.

You would get alot more replies in the yamaha forum since your question deals with the yamaha kodiak. As for me, ive not had that problem but then again, I havent been in a mud hole as severe are the one you describe. I have been stuck in mud up to the racks but after I got my mudrunners, Ive never gotten stuck again.

Maybe reverse is not a low enough gear for hard pulling on the Kodiak.Foward in low range would work alot better.

The "YAK" is a good machine. I've never seen my friend's bike in a reverse bind. We will experiment and I will post the results. Ride em hard Polcat

Sounds like the reverse rev limiter kicking in.
This greatly limits wheel speed while in reverse.

I'm not sure about the Kodiak, but I know my Sportsman has a rev limiter override button that allows it to run "normally" in reverse, powerwise that is.
This button also needs to be pushed to allow the 4 wheels to engage in reverse also.
Check out your freinds 4 wheel "bike" and let us know if it has the overide button like Polaris. I'm seriously thinking about getting one as a second machine. It might even become my no. 1 machine.I'm a big time sledder, but these lousy winters are gonna convert me to 4 bikes and 1 sled instead of 1 bike and 4 sleds.

My friends kind of misses when he has it in reverse and is giving it a lot of throttle. Maybe yorr friends belt was slipping?

We put 400 + lbs. on the "YAK" , tied it to a tree, and it still spun 3 tires in reverse. Just updating my previous posting. Ride em hard Polcat
