i agree with the above. i have owned BOTH and prefer the 700EFI for the sole fact that it's trouble free and reliable.

MANY 500EFI owners are being plagued with STALLING or NEAR-STALLING issues, hard shifting because either the CLUTCH or ENGINES are out of alignment, oh and how can we forget that they OVERHEAT right out of the crate (which was a SIMPLE fix that Polaris should have done at the factory).

after 4 or 5 visits to the Service Dept with my new 500EFI in ONLY 50MILES!!!!! yea, i'm sure i'd pick a diferent ATV if i had to do it over.

don't YOU make the same mistake.

It is true about the stalling problems. i took mines to the dealer yesterday. 3 codes came up.
we got rid or two of them. I think a wire was damage (the pink wire to be exact) that goes to the map sensor, so they order me a new harness. And the are going to fix the fan probem but other then that i like my 500

I picked up my 500 efi 2 weeks ago. I asked about the problems on this post. And was told that there was a bad indicator sensor for the hot lite but that problem has been fixed long ago. And there was an adjustment made to the ecu for other reasons. They were unaware of melting fender issues. I looked at my heat shroud behind the all wheel drive sticker and found it to be touching the fender so I modified it to give a little bit of air space and put some 2000 degree heat tape(from napa auto parts) on the fender to reflect the heat away from the fender . And I have had no problems with this quad. In fact I am selling my 700 efi king quad as I like the 500 efi better.

"long ago" is only about 30 days ago for the overheating issue.........and it's ongoing for most of the other problems.

i'm REALLY happy that your 500EFI is going well.

TWO Questions?

how many miles do you have on it?

what is the production date?(can be found on your Certificate of Origin)

Hey MT - I only have 100miles on it . I'll have to check that production date and get back to you later. I was noticing you were having trouble with your 500. Is your dealer helping you out?

I wanted Camo!!! And I figured since the 500s been around for close to ten years it should be trouble free????? They only had black and red 800's. Plus I don't need the extra power . Also the 500 is hefty enough I don't need a porker like that 800. No offence to the 800 guy's but it aint for me!

Camo? ok, you're the one that has to look at it. ten year? well, the carb machine would have made more sense then. extra power? we all need that! heft? 50 pounds/7% more? a legitimate point. ok, hey, it's your money, and as long as you are happy, that's all that matters. congrats!
