Ignoring the signs
#1
I took my sons riding yesterday at a nearby off road park. I was ridng on some trails at a good clip when I come face to face with about 4 dirt bikes. These trails aren't made for passing either, they are one way. What I can't understand is that they have arrows pointing the proper direction along with signs posted that say "Wrong Way". Several times thru the day I saw these same guys riding on different trails also going the wrong direction, riding right past signs telling them not to enter. That's crazy! The best stunt of the day was a guy driving his 4x4 truck on the trails back to pick up a disabled bike. I was flying around a trail and rounded a bend only to be staring at this truck driving the wrong direction down the trail right at me. I whipped off the trail and 2 seconds later a Warrior & Banshee came screaming up right behind me and they too barely managed to get stopped in time.
This was so freaking dangerous I couldn't believe someone would be that ignorant. There were 3 guys in the truck so wouldn't you think one of them could have walked ahead if they needed to drive on the trail and flagged down any riders before they had a head on. Going against signs and arrows on a trail is not a smart move but apparently some people don't think there's a problem with it.

What they really need is a snowplow to go down the trail 2 or 3 times a day in the 'right' direction. That is about the only thing I can think of that would have any effect on some people. If they would only be risking their own necks, but what if they hit some 14 yr old kid or something? Or if you MUST go the wrong way, go SLOW and yield the right of way for everyone else, and pull way off the trail. Just my opinion.

after the second time going the wrong way i would have stopped them and asked if they realize what they are doing..its unfortuanate we have idiots that cant follow simple rules for the safety of all..if they were on your side they would probably be the first ones to be screaming at you..

I can relate to that Crawdad. Often, when the brush is heavy or it's just about dusk, it's hard to see around the next turn and time is short when you're riding at 30 miles/hour and the traffic coming at you is doing the same. You don't have enough time to see each other so you hope for the best. The lead man is so critical in situations like yours. Because he signals the others when to stop, slow down and go. You probably do this already but it's a good idea to have your head lites on at all times on the trail. Helps others see you coming. Riding against traffic on the trail doesn't have to be and shouldn't be a stressful situation. It happens to us all on public trails. Say,"hello, how's it goin'", ask them if they know they're going the wrong way, last, everybody have fun riding, see you later...
