The drain plug for the 400 transmission...

From the back, look on the left side of the tranny. There is a bolt from the frame to the tranny, loosen the jam nut, screw in the long bolt and then you can remove the drain plug.

Counter balancer....

Take off the seat and look down the right side along side the airbox, its behind the recoil and has a large **** with a large slot for a Looong screwdriver or a slotted Tire iron (that's what I use). It's a dipstick that screws in and out.

Well, I just went thru & changed the gearcase fluid in my 2000 Scrambler using the AGL (the dealer said to use this) Polaris fluid. It takes one bottle. It cost me $11.99. I don't know, but I feel better using the Polaris stuff...the front uses 80/90 gear oil. If you could find a synthetic chaincase lube, then it may be similar, but I don't really know for sure.

Now guys the rear wear you put the trans fluid in, that is right behing the rear brake oeadel, right and you have to take off like a 9/16 bolt to fill the trans right. I was also told to use ow40 motor oil in there. Currently i am running AMSOIL formula 4 stroke synthetic 4 stroke motor oil OW-40. This is alright right. I was also told NOT to use this, i am now confused.

If its so confusing to know which oil to use why not just use the polaris brand oil for the specification it says for? Even if you dont have a polaris dealer near you we can order it online. I would hate to use the wrong oil just to save a couple bucks.

I can relate to that sometimes. I just stoped by the polaris dealer and asked the mechanic what to use for the transmission for the 2000 polaris scrambler 400 and he said Polaris AGL fluid. Its full synthetic fluid. I got the scrambler service manual and it states the same thing. That book is awesome. It tells you everything

The 500 and 400 filler plugs are different, i have a yellow dip stick plug with a ring on the end.
My 700 has the screw in plug/bolt.

I wouldnt use the motor oil in my trans.
