rcr porting questions
#1
hi i have a scrambler 400 and it just blew a piston. my dad says to get new berrings and wiesco piston and put it back together, to be stock, i think that it is a waist to rebuild it back to stock when RCR can port the cylinder. and shave the head also. and put a stage 1kit pipe on it. what kind of performance can his porting do to the motor. i ride fast on trails and wan't more power will this do the trick. how reliable will it be after porting, will a griddle be nesisary. i am only 16 and can't be spending too much on it, scence i have to do the botom end.
If rick reads this can you please wight back. it would be very helpfull and if i like what you say about the motor maby i will give you a call ship out the cylinder. i will need the cylinder boored, ported, head ported, piston, stage 1 kit, and maby a tach to toon in the clutch.
Thanks

YES! If you can afford it I think you should have Rick to trail port it and shave the head for pump gas, This will bring to 400 to life, Give Rick a call, he's a GREAT guy and will give you an HONEST answer. And his prices are GREAT also. Just my $.02

You can port the jug but to get the full effect of the port job you need the pipe. Porting and adding a pipe will give you about a 10-15hp gain and the 400 will scream. You dont port the head you port the cylinder. The head does not have ports. You can get a cool head for it. It is great what a good port job, pipe and proper clutching can do to the 400's. I would get the girdle kit to be safe but your not raising the compression that much for pump gas. At a minimum go with the wiesco piston, pipe, slight bore and head milled. If you can swing it do the port job.
