mtpockets please refrain from posting on this thread if you can't control yourself from making comments that have nothing to do with the situation. I see that you are a pro-rider and that gives me the impression that you may have something worth while to post but I notice that you feel you can just talk smack instead of contributing anything worth while. I hope your other 2132 posts were more insightful.
uh? did you even bother to read my 2nd post? i hope that things work out well for you.

anyways, YOUR MECHANIC should know what he's doing. it's kinda stupid to throw it back at the CUSTOMER to go post on a Forum board to find the answer.

i think i'm finished for now.............do you wanna say anything back?

Did it or did it not run OK before he worked on it?

If it ran fine before he worked on it then it is obvious he screwed something up and it is up to him to fix it at no extra charge to you..

The two chains in the transmission have nothing to do with the cam timing, I believe it is just coincidental that this problem occurred when the silent chain was replaced. Do you know how long it took him to replace the silent chain? Just curious.

It took him about 4 hours to replace the chain, he had done it before and he has all the right tools at his figure tips. But he actually did it in installments because he took out the tranny first and looked at the chain and then set it aside while he waited for the chain to come. I think I have read some posts on this site that said it's an all day job.

I agree that he may have done something in his test drive after he fixed the chains, it ran like a top when I took it in, reverse just was bad, i have been working him over a bit to figure out how he knew the new chain was working if it magically never ran after he put it in. Come to find out he took a test drive and when he got back that is when it started running bad. I am hoping it's just a big coincidence that this all happened at once, it may be a good thing I rather it happens now then when I am 30 miles out in the middle of a dog town in ND. It may have been lucky that it happend at the shop it the long run this may save me money. I know when he was doing the test drive when the silent chaing was going he put more throttle to reverse in the 5 seconds he looked at it then the 2 weeks I was driving it with it. All I could do was kringe so I believe that he gives them a pretty good test drive to make sure the bike is okay.

My hope is that the chain will go in, all will be good in the world again, and he will redeam himself as a mechanic and everybody has a happy ending and so on and so forth. I will keep you all posted.

Thanks for all your support everyone, this forum rocks.

IT WAS THE TIMING CHAIN!!!! What a good deal that it happened while he had it instead of while I was driving out in the middle of North Dakota. So now the machine runs better then ever and it has been totally looked over. He only charged me 8 hours of labor, 3 new chains, new spark plugs, all fluids changed.

So a happy ending it is.

Thanks again all.
