Default What kind of oil filter wrench do you use?

Prozac, I just went down to check to see if I had a cup type filter wrench that would work on the SP700EFI and I found one. It is the same one I use on my wifes Toyota RAV 4 (2005 AWD Model). I don't recall where I got it right off; (possibly NAPA / Advance Auto?) The name and number in the inside of it is as follows; CAL-VAN 785 USA. Maybe someone at your local auto parts or Toyota dealership can cross the number over to their brand if they don't have it by this number. It is a stamped steel cup socket which will slip on the filter without any modifications. You will also need a 3/8" drive rachet and a 3" long 3/8" drive extension. With these three tools this becomes a simple task. Having the correct tools for the job makes all the difference. This one is nothing to get access to compared to some of the stuff out in the automotive world. Hope this helps.

did you try a pair of oil filter pliers? if those do not work go get a napa nylon strap filter wrench. it will definetly remove it. i dont use those sockets anymore had a problem of them getting stuck on the end of the filter.

got a filter wrench at advance auto parts, metal, works great on pure one, p14610 and p14612's, needs to be tapped gently onto polaris oem filters, forms the can to the wrench, and off they come....

Large Channel Locks work great for getting off oil filters. When you put the new filter on, oil the seal and the filter should be only one hand tight(your weak hand). Do not use filter wrench to install. The oil filter will tighten up as your seal on the filter will expand from the oil.

I used the cup one from WalMArt and used a bench grinder to take down that outside lip so it will slide on. The was only needed for the factory installed filter. I don't reinstall it too tight.

You never want to use an oil filter wrench on an oil filter,( unless your fingers cant touch the filter) to install a filter all you need is your clean fingers. .5-.75 of a turn after the gasket touches..In all my years of working on cars, construction equip.,and small engines I have never seen one that you cant touch. They design them for that reason. The heat of the motor causes the final seel..
