v force reeds & carb ?
#1
i have heard that v force reeds are the best
will they make a noticeable differance
how will they affect jetting
i have been told they flow more gas
also i have heard the 38mm mtx carb works better than stock
will this carb be better and is it to much for a mild woods rider
does anyone use this combo with a pipe
thanks for any input.

One of my 400 Polaris's is stock with all the add on's below.
No port work, stock piston for 2 years of hard running, just the pipe and stock silencer now, V-Force 2 peddle reeds, 44mm carb, K&N air filter and HPD clutching. I have the jetting at 300 main and its a little fat.
I was told by a few that this wouldn't run well at all, but it does, it flat fly's, it wheelies like nothing even at 15-20 mph and it still pulls up. I pull a 5' Trailmower with it also to mow my property.
Go with a larger carb for mods later, it is still easy to woods ride. I think I am going back to stock front spring. The high engagement is a little much with the HPD Red/silver strip.

I would het a 39mm pwk way before the 38mm. I'm also having real good power with a ported stock reedcage and a $40 set of boyesen reeds. I have both a Vforce and stock ported. I think I'm gonna use stock ported from now on.

I agree with the rest of the guys on the carb. The 39 is supposed to be better than the 38.
The boysen rad valve was the first mod I did to my 4x4, back in 99. I think I gained approx one bike length. over my buddy on his stock 400 4x4.
Also, Dennis Packard told me that the boysen was a better valve than the v-force. Although i have always read just the opposite. So.... I had to compare the two. (Ive got the v-force on my racer) heres what I found - The boysen is completely made of aluminum, has a larger opening than the v-force, plus the boysen has a dual stage reed setup. Which is supposed to help out on the bottom end. The v-force is made of plastic and has single reeds.
My vote goes for the boysen.
My 2cents
