gear case oil

what is the best gear case oil to use the polaris syn. or is there a over ther counter parts store brand

I highly recommend the Polaris stuff. It is of a lighter viscosity than most gear lubes. I know it is expensive, but for how little it takes, I think it is worth it to have the recommended stuff.

The Polaris chaincase synthetic oil has a pretty heavy dose of moly (molydenum disulfide) in it, which is good. The moly tends to settle to the bottom of the container, so shake the container before pouring the oil into the transmission. My 97 Explorer 500 seeems to require about 28 oz. of oil after draining it.... not quite a full quart. Al Elston
