i was coming home this evening, after a little ride, so i come off the snowmobile trail which goes directly accross the entrance to my housing development, stop at the stop sign, hang a right, stop again hang a left and go to my house. mind you this whole time i did not break the speed limit, so i take my wheeler back to my garage, close it up. and there is a cop in my back yard pointing a flashlight at my face, im like "good evening officer". he's like "you know why i stopped?" im like "uhh i dont know" he's like "you know it's illegal to ride that on the road" im like "how am i supposed to get from the trail"? he's like "thats not my problem and thats what trailers are for, and if you wanna get that attitude with me, ill write ya every ticket in the book" and blah blah blah flippin out! im like ok i guess. he's like "next time i see that fourwheeler on the road again im impounding it and writing you every ticket in the book, no insurance, no registration, blah blah" first off he didnt know if it was insured or registerd or not. it's not even 400 feet from my house to the trail and im supposed to trailer my wheeler to get there. these bastard hassle me everytime im on my wheeler or sled, i cant even enjoy my toys, the only toys i can enjoy are my Nitro trucks. sorry i just had to vent.

Years ago 3 wheelers were out lawed for some of those very reasons.
In Missouri if you own land you can put a impliment sign on the back of quad and go where you want. Around here if you are stopped you get a ticket and points taken off you license. Also in most county's in MO you can purchase a permit to ride on back roads.
If you license the quad for street then it will have trouble with trails on D.O.T. tires.
good luck...............handycap

Yes thats his job but dang dont they have much worse crimes to watch. It happens here like that to. The COPS ARE A JOKE. I got busted for being on a dead end dirt road in the middle of no where. He hasseled me for a while but let me go. Yes I was breaking the law but my goodness there are murders unsolved, theft, dope, and alot other bad things and he is wasting time busting me for riding with my light on and on the side of a dirt road.

I can't agree with you more, Cops have much better things to do but unfortunatly its that "little old lady" on the corner or that "nagging woman around the block, or that dadgum "sissy man" at the end of the street who constantly calls the PD's or Sheriff's Office saying that they are worried about the kids on the corner or "that young man isn't wearing a helmet riding his motor scooter and I think you need to do something" and the Cop wants to strangle them not the rider. And again, its all in how a Cop presents himself, no doubt that cop could have been more Professional.
Anyway, just a look from his side.

Doing one's job is one thing. Doing with a bad attitude and abusing authority as some sort of dictator is another. If you didn't give the cop any crap, he should have politely reminded of the rules and sent you on your way!
If you come back then he can ratchet up his tude!

First, if it is just 400 feet, push the quad to the trail. You can push that bad boy all day long down the road and they can't do a thing about it because it isn't being "operated." Just make sure it isn't running. Not a great solution, but I had to do it at one time whenever I wanted to ride. I just kept telling myself it beats getting it impounded. The other thing is, have you ever warched COPS? Criminals are DUMB. The guy with the meth lab in his car always seems to get pulled over because he has a light out or no reggie, etc. You gave that cop probable cause to look at your property, and he may have just wanted a look around and give you a warning. Again, while not every one that breaks the little laws commits more serious crimes, many of the big offenders get caught because they also have trouble obeying traffic laws and such also. Something to think about the next time you get pulled over and "harrased" for something you think is small time.

Scooter86, you hit the nail on the head. Its really funny, every body I have ever heard complain about being "harrassed" by the PO PO, for some reason or other have broken some law, even if very minute, to even bring on a contact with them. I just politely say, if you didn't break the law, you would have never even met that Cop.
