Default Exhaust seal leaking where pipe meets engine

My 400 Scrambler leaks between the pipe (CPI) and the exhaust manifold, turns the whole front of the engine black, I'm picky about that stuff! I tried High temp. Slicone gasket sealer, didnt work. Also, bought a new exhaust ring at the stealership ($20), looked the same as the old one, took it back. Anyone know what else works, how about the springs can you get stronger ones?

hey mine does that too!!! or at least it did until i learned her out 60 to 1. but it still leaks. i need to do something about that. glad you mentioned it.i beleve you kan find some tighter exhaust springs at your local hardwear store or at hpd.com. tell ya something else, i think where the header pipe meets the actual straight pipe is a **** pour setup. 4 1 it doesnt fit very snug. 4 2 u got this pretty chrome pipe with a big ole brass lookn spring stickn out. they shouldve made the spring mount behind the pipe so no 1 could c the spring. If they realy wanted to be innovative they couldve made 2 spring mounts 1 on each side for extra supports

dont mean to critize the pipe. i own 1 so i guess i have the right too.

come to think of it about two months ago i fixed that problem!!!

the springs i had went from the exhaust to the cylinder with little effort. you could dam near hook the spring with your hands.

i took the springs and cut the hooks and bent new hooks. now they go on real tight.

i havent rode in bout 2 months so i kant tell u how they worked. but i believe i fixed the problem

hope this helps

I have the same problem, I havn't been able to find springs short enough to stop the leaking.

I was going to try high temp silicone but now I think ill try the spring trick.

My HPD trail pipe did that real bad. My CPI isn't quite as bad. It seems to gumm up after a while and doesn't leak too bad after that. Just spray some degreaser on the blow by and it usually will wash right off.

Hey thats a good idea about the springs, I'm going to try that. I'm running Amsoil 50:1, and it still makes a mess. The guy who owned it before me was running Castor 927 and that stuff is very hard to get off. lots of elbow grease!
