ORBITAL SIGNS NEW TECHNOLOGY LICENSE WITH POLARIS INDUSTRIES

PERTH, AUSTRALIA: Orbital Corporation Limited today announced a new license with Polaris Industries Inc. for its air assisted direct injection (OCP™) technology.

Polaris Industries Inc. of Minnesota, USA has entered into a license to manufacture certain products utilising Orbital's DI technology.

Polaris has been in business since 1954, starting off in the manufacture of snowmobiles and growing quickly to become a major player in this recreational market. With annual sales in 2005 of US$1.9 billion, Polaris designs, engineers, manufactures and markets snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), Victory motorcycles and the Polaris RANGER for recreational and utility use.

The Polaris license agreement is significant for Orbital in that it opens up fresh commercial applications for its technology beyond traditional lines in the automotive, outboard engine and motorcycles sectors.

Orbital Chief Executive Officer Dr. Rod Houston said "Polaris is a very good licensee for Orbital given its strong presence in the recreational market. "

"It is a recognised leader in the snowmobile industry and one of the largest manufacturers of all terrain vehicles (ATVs) in the world," said Dr. Houston.

"The license agreement is quite wide-ranging in its potential product applications and could lead to a number of new products utilising air assist DI with associated royalty revenue streams."

Dr Houston said the latest license agreement was further evidence of the commercial importance and the environmental benefits of Orbital's direct injection technology.

"Emission controls are becoming tighter for a wide range of motorised vehicles and our technology delivers the required environmental effect along with technical excellence and commercial benefit," he said.

DI is more fule efficient and lowers emissions while providing more power. Polaris is probably trying to meet the green stds without having to add cats or emissions equipment to their bikes. It not new to the diesel engines. It requires more fule pressure and it gives you better atomization of the fule. It also give you another place to play to tweak preformance. You can stroke or re-design your injector and nozzels to get the optimal spray pattern for you preformacne applicaiton.

Thanks for the response,I should have been a little more forthcoming and stating that I am quite aware/knowledgable about the technology and all applications.
I believe its either for snowmobiles or you people might someday be riding an ATV with a gas powered 4-stroke that has direct injection and will run on multiple fuels just by flicking a switch.

I am guessing that the press release below is a Polaris ATV for the military, the military is phasing out the use of gasoline by 2010

ORBITAL SIGNS NEW CONTRACTS FOR DI-4 STROKE
and 2-STROKE ENGINES

PERTH, AUSTRALIA: Orbital Corporation Limited is pleased to announce two significant contracts for its fuel injection technology in both 2-stroke and 4-stroke engine applications.

The contracts relate to Orbital's spark ignited combustion technology for heavy fuels, which are kerosene based fuels such as diesel.

In the first development, Orbital Corporation has finalised a contract for the development of the first production application of its spark ignited heavy fuel technology for a 4-stroke engine. This contract is with a major North American original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to provide the OEM with engineering services in relation to Orbital's proprietary direct injection technology for a land-based vehicle application operating on heavy fuel.

The contract is expected to generate revenue in excess of A$2 million over a period of 18 months, with a target start of production in 2007.
