My father and I are looking into buying a 06 SP800 to use for nothing but work. The only thing that it will be doing for the most part is hauling LOTS and HEAVY amounts of wood up hills, through streems etc. I imagine that it makes enough power, but I need to know if the trans can handle it. I have 2 raptors, one of which I will be trading in to get this, so I am not framiluar with any automatic design at all. How will this thing hold up? My dad and I dont have a lot of money, so we cant afford to make the wrong decision. Thanks guys!!!!

if you put it in low, the transmition is capable of hauling untill the tires break loose. just use Low when your hauling or anything and you'll be fine, if you try to do work in high, your going to burn through belts and shredded belts arnt fun to change.
for work, very heavy work the MV might be worth investing in because it has 2" hitches front and rear. If you do go with the 800, you may want to invest in some heavy duty rear springs to haul the weight of a load

just remember this is an atv not a grapple skidder. it does has its limits. it has plenty of power to haul and the frame is plenty rugged, and like spyder says use low range and u shouldnt have a problem w/ any of the autos.

Common sense should tell anyone to put it in low, that outa be a given. Whats a grapple skidder though? Never heard of that, is that one of foresting things thats tearing down all the trees to build houses around here in MD? That dealer said it could tow up to 1500# I think it was, with a 150# tongue weight.... thats a lot, I dont think that I would be moving that much at one time.
How hard is it to work on one, doing valves, tranny maint. etc?? Ive done everything on my rappy up to this point, just wondering if there was anything too hard for most anyone to do but the dealer. How often do you set the valves on these??? I have to do my rappy every 20-30 hours to keep the power up top notch. Any hourly tranny maint other than oil changes, if there is any?

lol. sorry being from woods country i some times forget people dont know. a grapple skidded is a big machine that pulls the sawed trees down thru the woods. it has 6' tires and can go anywhere hauling alot of trees at once. think of a monster truck w/ a big grapple on the end that closes around tree. i think the wheeler would pull a 2000 lb car w/ no problem.
