Default 2000 Magnum 500 4x4 rear spring???

Hi all. I have a 2000 magnum 5000 4x4, and I weigh in at about 300lbs! I ride it over some pretty rough and rocky terrain, and the stock rear spring has just about had enough! Even on the highest preload setting, it bottoms out all the time now. Does Polaris or anyone else make a stiffer, or higher load carring rear spring for this machine?? How much cash am I looking at? Thanks---Jon H.

By looking at the 2000 500 mag parts breakdown, there is a 125/180# spring, I think stock and a 175#,13.6 version available. Not sure what those numbers really mean.

Also there is a 1999 BigBoss 500 6x6 spring that might work.

Bottom line, go to your loal dealer and ask.

BTW the prices on these via online search is around $32 for just the spring

Looking a bit further, I only have a service manual for 96-97, but it list for 500 mag spring starting from 190 lbs, lighter of 175 lbs and a heavy 250 lbs optional.

Per the parts breakdown on the web, the other spring is probably a higher spring rate one. Again, Dealer time or maybe the Service guy to insure U get what ur looking for, for the model U have.

Thanks LSK. Your manual doesn't happen to list a Polaris part # for that 250lb spring does it? If I had the number, I might be able to ask my dealer if it is the right one. thanks again....JH

It did but when I check with online parts break down there where different from model year's 97 and 2000. That is why I did not post the numbers. The breakdown for 2000 did not represent itself as a 250lb spring as the older models did.

Assuming that this bike is stock and never had the rear spring updated, I would just go and ask the Polaris parts guy about a heavy rear spring for your model year. $32 is not that bad for it and if ur handy with wrenches not that bad to replace.

Again, I have found at times walking in with numbers I found on the web or elsewhere were not the current ordering numbers for Polaris

I would hate to have U order the wrong item

LSK, Yeah, turning wrenches myself is not a problem. I have this disease.......every time I buy something used, I use it for a month or so, then it gets completely torn down, and put back together with every wearable part replaced. My wife HATES it. She says: "Why don't you just buy a brand new one? It would be cheaper!!" In most cases, she is right. I just hate to see an abused machine ailing. So anyway, the magnum is on the garage floor in a million pieces right now. I know EXACTLY what you mean about part numbers from the internet.....I just went into my Polaris dealer, and handed him a couple bearing and seal numbersthat I got off the internet. He entered the numbers, and said "sorry , not available." I went to the next dealer down the road, handed him the numbers, and he crumpled up my paper, and threw it on the floor, then asked, "Year, Make, and Model?" He came right up with the parts I needed. Turns out, the old numbers I had were no good anymore. Been superseded to new numbers. Anyway....sorry for rambling on.........JH
