Default more predator problems... the saga continues

Hey guys,

(i'm getting sick of doing this, but here goes for those of you not keeping score at home:
*note, non-catastrophic parts failures have been ommited for simplicity, that is, if the machine was still ridable it's not listed below.

1) tranny lock-up. -> whole new transmission (every gear but 5th)
2) clutch lock-up -> whole new clutch assembly, oil flow problem found in case, whole new case. new bearings on bottom end.
3) lost compression -> cylinder and piston both found not to be round. top-end replaced
4) lost compression -> w/only 8 hrs on new motor, cams suddenly go massively out of spec. everything above the head is replaced
5) crank shaft nut came off -> while at the dealership idling as i drove to town to pick it up, destroying case in that area, seals, bearings. all replaced
6) stator failure -> motor simply stopped making spark at certain RPMs causing a horrible miss. replaced.

And after only 1 hr on it, it's back in the shop. This time it's, (drumroll) the CDI!!!! so for whoever had that in the pool you win. The dealership was still testing it last i knew, but they said that they and Polaris believe the CDI is bad now. It makes sense, now that there's nothing left of the factory motor fail, the next logical choice is the electrical system. (FYI this machine has been mine for 8 months now and i've ridden it for a handful of weeks.) every time it goes in it's in for 3-4 weeks due to back orderred parts. at this point the only hope i have is for my lawyer to get polaris to trade the machine in (i'm even offering a good bit of cash for them to do it.) Just thought i'd update you guys... any speculation on what fails next???

Dude that sucks. Don't let this stop you from another pred though, they are a great machine. I'd personally, send a letter to Polaris, similar to how you have it typed up above, stating all that has gone wrong on your "new" quad, and that you want it replaced. I'd also add dollar amounts next to each step.......

Worse part is, I still think it is your dealers fault, and he's screwed up something from the start that just keeps going. But, at the same time, it could be Polaris too. Either way, not you, and you shouldn't suffer like this. If it kept going on like this much longer, I'd drive over there, and drop it off on their front door step, and not leave until you have a different one, or something similar.

BTW......I've heard of #'s 5,6,7......not really all that uncommon.....I had 5 happen to me, and it comes off and ruins the clutch cover($300)...and on mine it ruined the engine case($600??)....but if you are really unlucky, it will stop the oil from going to the top end, and lock your top end up too.....

Scrambler, Sorry to here of all your misfortune with your machine. I can't help but wonder if part of this hasn't stemmed from the technician/s making some mistakes which caused part of the problems. Also maybe the oil flow problem that you mentioned was really the culprit for many of the things you mentioned and it just wasn't picked up on until it was too late!!!Was the crankshaft nut torqued to the correct spec.? and was it the one on the stator side, which could have caused the problems listed in #5 and #6? I just wonder how much of this that Polaris will question before they pay for all of this under warranty. I've seen a lot of problems caused by incompetent mechanics over the years get blamed on "faulty equipment". Not saying that's what's happened here, but just something to consider.

The crank nut is notorious for comming off(it is on the opposite side as stator).....but, I sure hope they loctited it down, like it is supposed to be.

What has to be done to ensure that the crank shaft nut is torqued?
Can it be done at home or is it a pain, better to go to dealer?

Matt actually races hard, and jumps hard......putting a strain on that quad of his. He has a build motor too. So, some of his problems, he's got comming. This, on the other hand, is totally uncalled for, and similar to a wild goose chase.

On the cranknut question, I believe you just pull the clutch cover, and it is right there. You'd have to hold the opposite side(flywheel) to tighten it. So basically you'll need a clutch gasket, and some oil to check the nut....so I think anyway. IF you check it though, remove it, and put some loctite on it, and then retorque it.
