Default HELP with Shock Adjustment Ring Fix

I have a '99 Scrambler 500 4x4. Would anyone be able to help me ID the thread size on the rear shock adjustment ring? It came with a plastic ring and has stripped out. I have purchased a new ring ($27). I was thinking of using some type of jam nut to hopefully stop this from happening in the future. The local hardware store could not help. All of the electrical and plumbing supplies where the wrong size. The threads are some where between 1 1/2" and 2". It could be metric but I have no way to tell. Any suggestions on the thread size or a good fix?
