Default Thinkin of buying a Hawkeye 4x4

Form all I have read, this seems like a good quad. My one concern is the air cooled engine. Living in Texas in the hot summer, we sometimes ride our water cooled 500 Scramblers for 6 to 7 hours in a day, and the radiator fan is on most of the time. How reliable will this engine be with just air cooling?

It should do ok. The 300 does not produce near the heat the 500 does. Just remember to not let the engine stay dirty with mud all the time. That will restrict cooling.

There is supposed to be an auxilary oil cooler available but I haven't seen one yet, I think it connects to the oil filter housing as there are two plugs there.

Default Thinkin of buying a Hawkeye 4x4

Hey guys/gals

I purchased a 2x4 Hawkeye in February of this year..As for it heating up I wouldn't think there would be any problems as I live in South Carolina and we have humidity that is a killer...I weigh 200 lbs and 6 feet tall and power is no problem..mine will run 49 MPH...The only thing I don't care for is the vibration and the dealer tells me this is normal...I had a 1997 Trail Boss prior to this and it was a lot smoother and quieter...Go figure...a two stroke vs four stroke..Has anyone else encountered this vibration? But, overall it so far is a great ATV.

Opinions are like something else ....everybody has one ....HUH!!! I never encountered any problems with the Trail Boss ....I also had a Kawasaki 220 Bayou...Great Bikes....I also have a 2005 Trail Blazer LE....It will haul ***.

Polaris Hawkeye 4x4 is best thing I have ever ridden in 300 class, sure for the 4,700 US I paid for it. It will stop and get going again on hills so steep I had to sit on front rack just to keep it down (no kidding here). In just two mohts I did 800 miles on it, manytimes going so steep up I didn't not dare to go back down the same way. It will pull small size trees off your trail. Independent suspension at the back get's you another 4" of clearance more. Air cooling means never to worry about antifreeze. It got nice digital display, iluminated at night. Breaks have a grip. It's automatic, I personally don't care much for shifting. If you want machine that is small enough you can flip it back on it's wheels when you all alone somewhere, this is it. (Just do it quick because if you let it be upside down bit too long, motor oil will leak thru air filter out and then you will need to change oil filter and add oil to get it started again.) It's perfect size for teenagers or ladies but will handle my 200 pounds, my mother and my 15 years old nephew on 20 degree slope up sand dune if it has to. Top speed is some 35 in the long run, some 45 max for a short while (you get the feeling you asking too much). The only complain I have is the suspension springs, too hard even for utility ATV, even at it's lowest setting. Also, if you want to ride sand a lot, remember that sand (or deeper snow for that matter) will cut your horse power in half and if you want to fly 40 deegree uphills at 40 miles an hour on paddle tires, you will need bigger engine machine. Other than that I can't believe this 4x4 is under 5,000.
