I bought the 2500 about a month ago and used it for the first time today to pull a small tree that had fallen down across a trail.After a few short pulls with the winch,it stopped working,It would let the cable out but wouldnt reel it in. I rapped the rest of the cable up and headed home to see what the problem was,but when I got home it worked fine.Have any of you have this problem? Any ideas?

It could be a few possible things.

1-could be a loose wire
2-a bad contactor (black box) very common on all winch brands
3- make sure the leads and wires are not touching any metal

 

So is anyone using the model specific mounts that come from the Gorilla winch or the Venom winch?

The problem that you are describing is with the contactor. If you power up the winch for more than 15-20 sec the contactor over heats. It has a circuit breaker built into the contactor. The breaker will cut off power to the winch. If you wait a few min it will work again. It has happened to me a few times but has never left me stranded. A better contactor will fix the problem but they are not cheap.

 

i had that same problem w/ my warn and it was one of the lines going to the winch was pinched on the frame. rerouted it and never had a problem again.

Why not Gorilla model specific mounts?
Anyone have any comments on the WIRELESS REMOTE for the Gorilla winchs?

 

The "mount" that comes with the winches are to mount the roller fairlead not the winch to your quad. You need to get a machine specific mount in most all cases.

You can get a machine specific package from Venon.
