most Sportsmans 1999-2004:
Underneath the Light Pod and somewhat under the Front plastic rack there is the center section of the body work that just pulls off (it uses some metal snap in fasteners) Remove that body panel. It is easier if you remove the front plastic rack. After you remove this panel you will see a nice flat area of sheet metal. It works perfect there and the cover will clear after you reinstall it. If you have an EFI you will need to move the EFI box over a little bit to make room for it. You will also need to use the Battery wires for the Winch Motor and the Winch Motor Wires for the Battery (this is because of the length.

2005-2006:
There is a location for the contactor in your Front RH Wheel well if you are sitting on the machine. It is a small Aluminum bracket that you will have to remove the two bolts to mount it.

Hope this helps

I was under the impression that it had to be mounted at the rear close to the battery, but I will look under the front panel.I would rather have it mounted up front covered by something. Thanks for the info

No they can be mounted in the front that is why the new 2005 and 2006's have an OEM location in the front RH Wheel Well.

As for the Outlander 800 there is not a winch pocket like on the Polaris. The Outlanger mounts down below behind the bumper. The only ones available that I know of is a Warn brand that would work but you will have to drill two new mounting holes in the mount to accomidate the Venom 2-hole mounting. You could also buy the OEM from your dealer but this will not work with any of the 2-hole mouned winches because there plate is missing material in the needed mounting hole location. The Gorilla Grey colored winch should work with the OEM Mount.

Hope this helps

Which winch looks the best to you guys? Here are the ones I've been debating on getting.....

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2000-...23752647QQrdZ1

Not really sure, but is that a Champion winch? Or just some random brand? It's the same size as the Venom 2000 but a little cheaper.

The Gorilla. Not sure about dimentions.

And lastly, the Venom 2000.

I need the smallest one I can get (wish I could afford a Warn 1.5), while still being reliable. Right now I'm leaning towards the Venom or the other 1st one I posted, but what do you guys think?

Cboelman ,I installed my gorilla 3000# winch on my sportsman 400 last night with the winch mount that I ordered from you . All worked out great ! I think I will have to cut out the front cover more than the template size though. If I use the size of template ,I don't think I will be able to get to the free wheel ****.

Personally I would not even do anything with the cover. I think they look great without it (see the pics of my 800) and I have heard allot of problems with them falling of while riding after they have been cut. Most of the Polaris Dealers do not even cut them. The templates that are in the kit are for the Warn 2.5. With the Gorilla it is about 1/2 farther than the warn on the clutch side.

Are you putting this on a Scrambler?

Whatever you are putting it on if you get a Venom you can purchase a Venom Package deal with the Model specific Mount and save allot of money.

Thanks

Yup, it's going on a Scrambler. I have an aftermarket front bumper on my machine, so I'm going to fabricate a 1 inch receiver mount. Otherwise I would just buy their mount kit. I'm planning on taking it on and off, but the place where I want to mount it is a little less than 12 inches wide, so that's why I need the smallest and still reliable one.
