Does anybody know what model and years tranny i can use in my 2001 scrambler 500 to add low range? I know its an explorer tranny, but does the yr or engine size matter? Also if you have one for sale that will work, let me know!! Thanks, Steve

I just switched mine out with a tranny from a 00 xplorer. I seen several post with opinions on which year is the best but from what I've seen they don't change much from 99-02. Good luck finding a used one they are a very hot item.

Does it matter if it is a 2 stroke or 4 stroke tranny

Thanks alot for the links I did a good search like i should of done first, and i found all kinds of info. Looks like a 00-03 explorer tranny is whati need. Altough i would like more info on the gearin for the 6x6, cause that looks like it could be good too.

So yeah, next time i will do a good search befor i ask a q. Thanks alot though!! Good Forum

i put an explorer tranny in mine but with the large tires i turn i gear it down even lower to what the 6x6 is. So yes low is lower in the 6x6 but i believe high is also just a little lower also. i'd have to pull out all my specs for when i change mine out. I would think the 6x6 tranny should bolt in just fine also.

BTW mine is for sale
