Rear caliper pins 1995 sportsman STUCK!
#11
I apologize, your title clearly states rear and I was looking at front. I looked at the rear assy and think you are on the right track with letting it sit. I'll take a look at mine, and refresh my memory.

Definitly no screw on there. I just checked it out and see no place for one. I se the other models have a cover plate to hold the pins in. I'm baffled with this one. I would bet the ranch there I'm not missing it and they should just slide out but not so easy after 11 years of crud.

I can't believe how they won't budge. They were in the PB for 2 hours. I'm not sure if overnight will make a difference. I am thinking the only way out will be to mid a small nut to the end carefully not to weld the pin to the caliper! This is extreme but I don't know how else to get them to budge.

What a stupid design this caliper was. I hope they changed it for the newer years. I tried everything. Soaked it or 2 days with PB. The I even superheated it to try to free the pins up. The next thing I did was mig a nut to the pin being careful not to weld the shaft to he caliper. The next thing I did was throw it through the garage window and called the polaris dealer and spent 162.50 on a new caliper!
I can't believe something th goes through mud, muck and water would have pins like these holding the brake pads on. About as poor engineering as the steering on all polaris quads with the cheap bushings and leaky front struts.

yep it sucks - had the same problem on a 94. Yep it's stupid to not have a backside opening so you can drive the pins out.
My best chance was drilling a few holes in the face of the caliper and then filing it out enough to grab the pin with needle nose vice grips. I finally just swapped calipers since i had one available (those pins came right out)...I would jump on ebay if i were you
FYI - the manual says to compress the pads towards the roof of the caliper compressing the spring plate inside to take tension of the pins (didn't work for me!)
