Default Does my Scrambler have a gearcase and a tranny?

I have a 2000 400 2x4 Scrambler and I'm doing maintenance and I'm getting confused between the Transmission and the gearcase. Are they two in the same? Does my Scrambler have a separate gearcase? I drained my transmission (bottom left side/with the torque stop) and put in polaris synthetic.

But, my generic owners manual talks about draining the gearcase and putting in 80/90 weight gear lube. I'm going nuts, can you help?

Its all in who you ask. I guess the belt- pulley system is really the transmission. PVT "polaris variable transmission"
but we call it the clutch. And we call the gearcase the transmission.
The big aluminum thing behind the motor is the gearcase or transmission. And it takes 80/90 oil. Really its the only thing on the 400 2x4 that holds oil. Other than the counterbalancer. Wich is in the motor.
Hope this didnt confuse ya more.

Thanks for the info. I put Polaris synthetic gear lube in the Tranny, which I thought was what my owners manual said to do. Am I okay putting this into my Tranny/Gearcase?

You did it right, leave the synthetic tranny lube (AGL)in the tranny. The 4x4 models have gearcases that take 80/90. It's the front differential. The tranny is also called a chaincase. DO NOT put 80/90 in your tranny. I guess Polaris does call the tranny a gearcase. Just make sure you use Polaris AGL in your tranny/gearcase.

Thanks for the help! I was pretty worried that I had put the wrong stuff in there and would have to redo it on all 3 of my Polaris's.

So, moral of the story: Gearcases are only on 4x4 models?

You know, Polaris is weird. They consider the front differential on their ATVs an angled drive. So for those you get anlge drive fluid(80/90w). Your tranny they consider a "gearcase" so you buy AGL.(ATV Gearcase Lube). On the 400 models you have a counterbalancer in the motor as whitedog had said. It takes any old 10w30.
