BEWARE of the HAWKEYE. DANGEROUS
#52
It is with all ATV manufactures that there are going to be a certain amount of problems with most of the time first and second year productions. It is sad but a fact that anyone that has bought a item just released should be very proactive and check everything out not just once but make it a part of your before ride check.
I see where some of the posts are relating to problems with a dealer also. Its again a shame that dealers not matter what brand they peddle cant back up what they sell better than what they do. I for one will never return to a dealer thaqt has not been upfront or done EVERYTHING in there power to help with me a problem. Also they will not get anyone I know bussiness in the future.
I have a Honda Rancher 4x4 with ES that I bought new in 2003 and have never had any problems with it and it has 9300 miles on it. What a great machine. Bought the wife the same animal in 2004 and the shop peronel at the dealership had more miles on it than my wife, BUT they have done everything in there power to correct each and every problem and have been great to work with so I keep using them (No I didnt buy the ATV there I wont go back to where I bought it)
I bought the Polaris 800 EFI in March and have just under 2000 miles on it and have not had any problems other than when I first bought it I wasnt suppose to pop wheeeeeles with it during the break in period, oh sorry of track.
I would not think of bashing a ATV from another brand untill I have owned one and had major problems that the FACTORY would not at the end resolve.
MUST RIDE, NO STOP TO THE TOP EXCEPT SNOW

Just crossed the thousand mile mark on my Hawkeye with no problems other than rejetting. I've owned a fair number of Hondas and most of them needed carb tuning also to suit me JFYI. I am quite happy with the machine, my sister has two of them which also needed the carb adjustments and one bad speed sensor replaced under warranty. We spent a week trail riding several hundred miles with not one problem. I got 26 to 28 mpg through 500+ miles cruising the trails in the U P of Michigan, I'd buy another one in a heartbeat......

Thanx for the info, I was thinking of getting one for my wife, but not any more, I guess we will be looking at a new Yamaha instead, I have a new 500ho ( first Polaris ATV) and really like it, I hope it holds up, since I have got it I have not read alot of good things on these forums about Polaris ATV, it sometimes make me wish I had stayed with Yamaha.

With so many Hawkeye sub-frames breaking, what can we do to get Polaris to re-engineer one that is stronger and replace it for free?? The standard warranty is only 6 months, but I would pay for a stronger part.

I did put 4x4 hawkeye thru 1300 miles of the worst of the worst, 40 degrees uphill here, 30 degrees side tilt there, the A-arm did broke off on me, yes, but I did made it back to the camp no problems, nothing scary, I'm sure they will make second year better, it's machine worth fixing up if you know what I mean, and the price 4,700 bucks is great.

I Had a 3 year warranty, and they say it is abuse. they cannot admit that there engineers screwed up and chinced out on there customers. Thanks polaris. There is a public safety commision that this can be reported to. There was a recall on the sportsman that i got a notice about. They would go up on fire after you parked it. P.S. did you get yours covered under warraty.
Thanks Toz

I paid for my broken A-arm plate hook up down under, I didn't know it could be under warranty and I thought it was my fault. But since the dealer at Tilamok, Oregon, where I got the Hawkeye, kept raising the price everytime I asked 'how much?" and it took him too long to fix it for the $ 450 he wanted, I took my next trouble to Boring, Oregon. This time I damaged the rubber covering on half shaft and dirt destroyed the shaft ball bearing before I took a notice of it. I made it back on 3 x 4 that day, but I made it. I was pretty sure it was my fault. But Boring dealership end up giving me new transmition and half shaft and it was 1,200 bucks covered under waranty they said. That is three days before the expiration of said warranty. They said they just look up my VIN number in Polaris records and no need for my "bill of sale receipt", Polaris will pay them. Come to think about it, my guess is the Tilamok dealer, some 60 days after I bought the bike from him, billed the Polaris and me as well but to prove it I would have to have acces to Polaris databaze about warranty repairs. It's possible some dealers make money getting paid twice for same "warranty" problem since my Boring, OR, dealer had no worry getting paid from Polaris at all.
