possible water in fuel HELP

I think i have water in my fuel,changed the fuel filter and saw it half full of possible water,trail boss wont rev. up sputers,back fires,and almost dies when you open the throttle up,CAN anyone tell me how this would run if there was water in the fuel and if it is, should i pull the gas tank ,open up the fuel pump,drain the carb? THANKS

Drain the fuel tank (IMPORTANT! RESERVE petcock position). Drain the carburetor through the dump tube; add dry gasoline; squirt in some "gas treatment" (alcohol) like "Dri-Gas," and away you go!

When you drain the tank and carb, catch the "gas" in a clear container. Let it sit to see if you do have water in the gas. The water will sink. Only takes a cup or so.
