Starter won't stop cranking
#1
I started my 700 today and when it started i noticed that the battery light was blinking and it was making a funny noise. It turns out that the started didnt stop cranking. I had to pull the seat off and disconnect the battery to turn it off. When i touch the wire back on the battery terminal it tries to start again. It is a brand new starter that i put on last fall. I havent had any other problems with it until today. I did a search on here but didnt find anything. Has anybody else had this problem, or know how to fix it? Thanks!

try tapping on the starter solenoid, but be sure to not touch the terminals with what ever you use to hit it, so you don't get a little zap. it may be sticking(it is a magnetic switch) and thus making the starter keep cranking. when i say tap, i mean lightly pounding on it with say a screwdriver handle, don't just wail on it with a hammer, that might not turn out too good.

Sounds like they nailed the problem. You probably will have to replace the solenoid to fix it permanantly as the contacts in it will eventually stick or weld themselves so that tapping it will no longer work. I would replace it ASAP before this happens and ruins your new starter. As you well know they are not cheap. The solenoid will be cheaper and not very hard to replace. You should be able to do it yourself. Just label the wires as you disconnect them or take pictures as you disassemble to help with reassembly. Just make sure to get the wires back on the new solenoid in thier original positions and you should be good to go
