2006 sportsman fuel gauge
#13
When I fill my '05 800 to the rim, the gauge reads 3/4 & stays there - until it drops below 3/4.
After 3/4 tank, it seems to work. I've had it down to where it was flashing on 'E' & it took almost 4.5 gallons to fill (4-3/4 gal. capacity).
Whenever I get some time (never), I'll pull that pump assembly out of there & see if it's the float hanging up, or something dumb. It's been like this for about a year so far.

The most common performance scenario for these machines is the gauge will show full until you’re down to about 60% of a tank, then it drops fast from there. That’s about all the accuracy you can expect from a float actuated gauge in a tank that’s shaped as weird as these are to get the most out of the oddly shaped placement. Unfortunately that makes the gauge feature slightly better than worthless, which is why we always carry a spare gallon of fuel. When the speedo starts flashing we’ll add a gallon and head for the nearest pump.

Wow. It must be on the newer EFI models, because my feul gauge has always worked very well, with no problems whatsoever. If i get a new Sportsman, ill have the dealer check it out before i buy. There must be a fix for a problem that seems so simple. And ALSO i just got my itp type 5 rims put on today. whoo hoo, makes it look SO much better.

i would recommend if your planning on going more then 40 miles and are going to any playing such as mudding i would carry spare gas. beats walking when you run out.
