running a 400 with a battery eliminator
#1
For the last 3 years ive been running my rig with the charge coils removed, because Ive heard that a generator robs power. So Ive been running my tach via a 12v cordless drill battery. Well.... I got tired of screwin around with the battery, and decided to put the charge coils back. --- Heres how I wired it-- Charge coils to voltage reg - voltage regulator -red- to batery elim - ground to frame. My hot wire on tack goes to the positive on the battery eliminator. And the ground goes to the frame as well.
Well, when I ran It today, I smelled the smoke comin from the tack.
Do I have it hooked up wrong???? WTF!

Let me try to be more clear here. The two yellow wires from the generator go to the voltage regulator, then the red wire from the regulator goes to the battery eliminator. I come from this connection to the positive wire on tha tach. I have a wire from the NEG on the eliminator to the frame. And I ground the tach to the frame also. I dont have a ground wire hooked up under the charge coils, could this maybe be the problem?
Also, the ground wire from the battery eliminator To the frame broke at the connector, just before the tach smoked.
Maybe this fried it! ??? Makes sense now....
