Default Can you "unlock" a polaris rear diff?

I've noticed my quad tears up the grass pretty good now that the snow is gone. Much as I love a locked diff for it's go anywhere capabilities, I wouldn't mind being able to go into "one wheel drive" to save my lawn. I know that newer quads have a "turf saver" switch , but is there anything I can do manually to mine to put it into and out of possitraction?

From what I understand the answer would be no....unless you have one of the new X2's with the 'Turf' mode on the 4WD selector.

Anyone please correct me if I am wrong....

i dont beleave you can unlock it w/ out shelling major money out and putting a differnt rear end all together like he said the turf saver one. i had an freedom 02 500 whinch had the same set up on yours and those rawhides dig the hell out of even a dry lawn. take wide swings is the only anwser. but what great traction tires. i wish io had them in the size for the 800.

I have actually thought about geting a set of lawn friendly (bald) tires for my old stock wheels. I would love to use my 4 wheeler for more yardwork but if I am not really careful it will kill the yard.

I bet in a couple of years when they make a 950EFI sportsman it will have a turf mode, 4 wheel EBS, real waterproof storage. I will be 1st in line!

when we got my 700 we got a set of turf tires from polars(the accessory set), they work nice on the lawn, and don't rip it up as much. so i can tell you that turf tires do help a little bit if you want/need to drive on your grass alot.

That slipping differential would be a great feature to see on the newer ATV's. I bet if the X2 has favorable results, we will all see it offered next year on many models...Another Polaris First!!!

You are right! I have the polaris ATP with the turf control(locking diff.). And I use it all the time. I am a superintendent of a golf course and I bought the ATP for that reason. Also I bought a set of set of rims with "Turf Tires" mounted on them. I even use my bike on the bent grass greens. Not only does my bike provide an extra turf vechical on the course in the summer its great to get around the course in the winter also, just switch back to 2x4 and lock the diff. My only concern with the system is that it is a electric silenoid the locks the diff and it sets low on the rearend. Crossing creeks, it does get wet. I guess i will find out how long it last. Just thought I would share my experience with you. I'm sure with the new x2 coming out there will be some aftermarket stuff developed and hopefully cheaper than the dealers in a year or two. Good Luck. BTW--- Turf tires will help your situation in the yard. I would buy an extra set of rims to go with them. I Paid $100.00 per wheel and tire from polaris. Not to bad.

Just my $.02

P.S. --Uncle Sam gives a little back if you use your bike for work-- :-)
