Default OVERHEAT LIGHT ACTING WEIRD

I read through several post trying to find a problem that is like the one I have. I haven't seen anything quite the same so I'm going to try a new post.

I have a 2000 Polaris Xplorer 400 with performance pipe, carb and porting. After I warm it up enough to turn the choke off the OVERHEAT starts to flicker at idle speeds. When I rev it up past idle it goes off. The fan does not come on but it does work (I tested it) and the heat sensitive switch works also. I removed it and heated it a little bit with a propane torch and it activated the fan. I am not sure what temperature made it come on though. I felt the coolant lines and they were warm and I even tried letting it set at idle and ran cold water thru the radiator. The light still flickered. Does anyone have any idea on why it is flickering? I really don't think it is because it is overheating.

Thanks for the help.

How about some info on what switch or device turns the overheat light on? Maybe I can figure it out from there.

Thanks
