Hey, been awhile since I posted here, but I have a question that I figured someone here could help me with(I hope..lol). I have a 2000 Sportsman 500 and here lately when I'm riding , my headlights get dim,fan runs really slow, speedometer goes to 0 , and my odometer goes blank. The machine never dies or runs any different other than what I described. Can anybody out there help me ??? Where to start looking first and so forth......

check the voltage of the battery. i believe it should read 13.5 to 14 volts. if lower than 12 volts charge battery and see if it maintains the charge above 12 volts. also if electrolyte in battery is not at the correct level put at correct level with battery water supplied from your local auto parts store. how old is the battery? when atv is stored battery should be maintained charged at all times if not they wear out prematurely. you need a low amp battery charger. mine is a 2 amp charger and i pull the batteries out in all my machines when stored and i maintain and check them for correct electrolyte level and charge at least once a month. also dim lites at slow fan sped can be a bad ground. dirt rust accumalates and false contact occurs at the ground wires to the electrical. gee dude i dont know about the stator how to check that but a service manual will show you how to do that.
