Default Need advice on reinstall of front half shaft (circlip problems)

After breaking a lower ball joint last week and ripping up a cv boot as an after affect of the suspension collapsing... I'm not trying to reinstall the repaired shaft back into the front diff. I dropped the shaft off at a automotive CV joint shop for them to reinstall the boot for me, and he told me to get a new "Circlip" for the end of the shaft that goes into the diff. So I have my repaired shaft, and a new circlip from Polaris, and I'm trying to install the shaft back intot he diff, but the damn thing doesn't seem to want to go back into the diff with that clip on it. I'm hesitant to beat on it with a hammer because I don't want to break anything else. Any advice....?

Thanks!

Give it a good hit with a dead blow hammer and it will go right in.
