Default Starter Spinning Backwords

Ive been having problems with my 04 Sportsman 400. The bendix was siezed up and I fixed that put it all back together and it still wouldnt engage the fly wheel. Looked into it a little bit more and noticed the bendix wasnt engaging because the starter was spinning the wrong way. It will start with the pull start, and ran problem free for 50 miles on a ride we went on. The battery is hooked up properly and was charged properly. Tried several 2 other batteries that work fine in other machines. I hooked up the starter opposite, with a postive ground to see what happened and it spun the right way and engaged the flywheel but quickly disconnected it because I know that could screw up the other electrical systems. Im thinking maybe a relay is bad? All the wires are free of shorts. Any feed back and websites to buy what i need is greatly appriciated.

The starter was put together wrong when you rebuilt it. Take the starter off and clean it, then look for the index marks on the starter. The end bell is most likely 180 degrees out of phase.
