Polaris 800
I am considering a big bore machine and have driven an Outy 800 but have read of various problems with the machine, to be expected on A NEW MACHINE I guess. I owned a 2000 Polaris 500 but the engine seized (bad oil pump) bought an outy400 and love it but would like more top end. My wife has an 02 Sportsman 400 (we bought it new) it dose a great job plowing but is making a rattleing noise at slow speed. I recently saw a new Sportsman 800 red with alum wheels (sharp machine) and am considering one. One concern I have is the plastic body melting, I saw a pic of one and it was hideous. I would like HONEST input from Sportsman 800 owners who have had their machines long term as to the reliability of the 800. I belong to several forums and find if it is not a Polaris forum they say Polaris is junk and if on a Polaris site then they are great. Please let me know what your experience with the machine is as it's a lot of money for one. thanks

i have 210 miles on mine as on now and have had no problem w/ melting plastic. i did how ever just had to replace 2 cv joints, one that the boot ripped and i didnt know it so it start clicking as they do, and the other i destroyed while trying to get unstuck. alot of torque in low range while the wheel is cranked to one side. the only draw back to the 800 in my case is the bad gas milage but its what you get w/ a big bore machine. my honest input.

Buy the one you like best, both are good machines, You can find a dirty laundry list on every quad out there if you are looking for one. The Outy IMO is the sportier of the two and the Sportsman 800 I had was a good machine as well, actualy the best Polaris I had to date. Never in the shop for anything. That said I had several other Polaris quads in the past I could go on and on about there problems. Polaris has come along way in trying to clean up there act these past few years. I think they are both good and it realy depends on your personal rinding style, and prefferences.
