Sincere question: is the 800EFI really only 760cc's
I dont know what to tell you PPope, except that i think you're completely wrong. Based on my experiences the 800 is faster than every quad except for 2.. BF750 and Bomb. Technically one. Maybe if you took that low end lag or that second of hesitation out of the KQ, then Maybe.. and what you say just does not make sense. Was the SP800 bone stock? im just confused.. please elaborate...

Sincere question: is the 800EFI really only 760cc's
I have seen 3 sp800's drag race two KQ700's. All machine are stock except for winches, in which they all had one. There was (2) 2005 model sp800's and (1) 2006 sp800. The KQ's were 2005 and 2006 models. The KQ would outrun the sp800 everytime. Then I saw a stock bf 750 and the 2006 sp800 race. The bf left it from the word GO. I actually raced in the sp800 vs the bomb 800 and we all know the results there. But then an Outlander 650 shows up and outsruns everything there but the OL800. I am a Polaris loyalist, so I am definetley not bashing them. They are the best in the category which they have focused on, but being the fastest is not that category. Sorry, but these are real life reports, not reports from readings or hearings.

It's hard to say who is fastest without some sort of controlled race track to compare them on. How long of a race is it? Are you racing on asphalt or dirt? Traction will be an issue. Maybe on dirt the heavier Sportsman gets better traction than another quad that spins off the start. Do you swap riders to eliminate weight and ability differences?
So until there is a standard for racing (300ft, 600ft, ashphalt ?) there will be lots of arguing over who is faster...unless there is a clear winner like the Outty 800.

no offence, but who cares how fast the big ute are. did any one really buy a one of these big machines to race. im pretty competitive w/ my best freind in about everything we do. so if i wanted to race or beat him agaist his bf 750 i would not have bought my 800. sorry it just seems a little foolish to me to keep pondering the same debate.

Agreed. If I wanted to race, I wouldn't have bought a ute. As far as everyone bitching about the weight and all of the comments about getting killed underneath one. Duh. Take up knitting.

Regardless of who does and doesn't do it, it's crap to name it that way, Yeah it's model number is an 800, but everyone knows MOST of the time the number is within a cc or two of the engine size, and EVERY ONE of us knows why Polaris decided to call it the SP800 instead of a 760, so unsuspecting buyers would think they're getting an 800cc engine. I think it's a bunch of crap and can't believe Polaris had the nerve to do it, it really gives them a black eye IMHO!

Poor unsuspecting buyer. Don't read a magazine, the manufacturer's website, the tag on the handlebar, ask the dealer, ask a buddy before you spend $7K-$8K on a quad. Wah. It's marketing. Every industry does it. The Mustang II was a performance car? Axe body spray will make me a chick magnet? Redbull will give me wings? I for one am smarter than that. I knew what I was getting when I bought mine, even with their evilly deceptive marketing plan.
