any one having any problems w/ the free spooling on their gorilla or warn winches? my bud says he cant free spool w/ his 3000# gorilla. havent had a chance to pull it apart yet. works good otherwise then that i guess.

 

I had that problem and took it aopart and found a bunch of sand stuck under the control ****. I was playing in a creek the week prior and was sturring up sand. Well I geass the sand got up under and dried. Cleaned it and it works fine. I have put this winch through he!! and it has pulled fine every time.

I've now installed two Gorilla 3000lb winches that freespooled out of the box but after installing failed to freespool almost immediately. The **** on the first would spin freely on the second it only moves sixty degrees but has no effect.

I have emailed Gorilla as a fax machine answered their phone today. Hopefully the third will be the charm. I'd hate to admit you only get what you pay for.

 

my #2500 works great....I would like to see a demo on these winches to sort fact from fiction

 

mine wont freewheel cuz i broke the **** off when i turned it the wrong way

 

I don't think you can turn it "the wrong way." The instructuctions say not to force it or turn it when the spool is turning. I definitely did neither unless forcing it involves very little force.

Did you "force" yours?

Same thing happened to mine, only not only doesn't it free spool, when you try to activate it, it just clicks. You definitely get what you pay for, i'll never buy another and won't recommend one either.

 

i hate to say it ,but next time i just may buy a #3000 off-brand.i spent the big $ on a warn #2500.i when your winch gives out in a swamp and your ft right axel snaps then your diff comes apart your in trouble... took a 600 sportsman and about 70 ft of straps and 45 to a hour of jerking from dry ground to get me out . i wont even get into the ride home . he had a 2000# no name that also smoked . but the the big dollar winch did no better than the cheap one, and he spent less to repair his then i did . but NEVER had a spool out problem ..
