land owners

Hi Gang.
We came across something interesting tonight. There is a farm land type area where we live and it seems that there are a whole bunch of fields linked together from years ago when it was farmed. The spread is several miles long by just as many more wide.
With no active farm in sight anymore, and a well beaten trail down over all of the land we got to wondering how to find out for sure who owns the land without getting in to a huge amount of PI work.
There are open entrances to the many access roads and trails, and then oddly enough on one entrance there was a gate that appeared to be put there when christ was a child. With only one gate on such a accessible land space it was kind of like a boat with many holes. Many roads in and one with a gate on it. seems silly.
There is no civic address as such on the land so unless we bring someone out to see the land we will not know how to describe it to any authority to find ownership. Each of the linked fields seem to have long out lived its purpose.
Not to mention we don't know who to go see about ownership
Any thoughts ???

How about a plat book? In WI they have plat books to show who owns the bigger parcels of land, and I know they do in at least some other states. Maybe they have something like that in your area to. Try maybe a local courthouse or something.

Dutch...describe the area that you are talking about a little more or PM me on it. These guys who are responding to you are not Newfies and don't know the area...coal mine - yea right. Not to give you guys a hard time but look to see where the person posting is from and then decide if your response will be appropriate for their location. I am a fellow NFLDer and have quite a few connections through my land surveyor buddies and construction associates so I may be able to help you out pal.

Ahh ... its not that easy... If we ride it, and get picked off by the fuzz, there is no excuse that will stop them from giving a hefty fine or taking your bike up here.
Our government is running a huge amnesty to get all bikes registered and land rights are just as big of an issue. Last year several young ones had bikes taken for abuse of private crown lands.
Don't know about you but I don't like paying for things I don't own anymore.
Thanks for the input though.
cheers
