I went riding 2 weeks ago, just logging roads. My gas light started flashing at 65 miles and ran dry at 83.4 miles. That was with the petcock in the "on" position. I only have 300 miles on my machine at the time so its still breaking in. Last week I went, I was in snow and alot harder riding. I make it to 55 before it was flashing and refueled.
I have a carb also... Hope it helps.

THATS NOT GOOD.!!!
I LIKE THE OLD RES.,ON,OFF VALVE THAT USED TO BE ON THEM.
AND NOW WITH THE SMALL 4 GAL TANK YOU CAN'T GO FAR.
IT SHOWS YOU A FULL TANK FOR ALONG WAYS TILL SUDDENLY ONLY 2 SQUARES LEFT.

all EFI's have reserve, you just cant turn it on. When your Low Fuel light comes on, you've been automaticly switched to reserve, your gas tank should be completely empty and you should be able to hear your fuel pump sucking air if you take your top off. i belive the reserve tank is 1/3 of a gallon
