cargo boxes and backrests
#1
I have the 06' 500 HO and want to put a cargo box and/or backrest for me and my wife or daughter to trail ride. I know it's not designed for 2 people but I don't drive aggressively at all with 2 people. I like the idea of the lock n' ride system but I'm not sure if the backrest would give a 2nd passenger enough room. I attempted to buy an aftermarket one, the fancier one with heated grips etc.. but I don't want to bolt it down since I would like easy removal when riding alone or hunting. While using just the nylon straps, one came undone on my wife. I did not find this safe or satisfactory at all since it cost $350 CAN.
Does anyone have the lock N' ride system backrest? How do you like it with 2 people?
What type of aftermarket ones do most people use and how solid are they?
Thanks,
Mike

I have the rear seat/box from Kimpex on my 02 500 HO and I think it's great!! I have the Kimpex foot pegs/fender guards too and that makes it even better. It's like riding on the back of a touring motorcycle. I see your from Ontario so, check out Royal Distributing. They have a few stores in ON and their prices are good. They will ship to your door if you want or if you live close it's worth the trip. I have got stuff from them before and was happy with the price and sevice. Check out their web site @ www.royaldistributing.com

ppc - I have the lock and ride cargobox and backrest on my 05 700. I love it when riding single or with my young daughter. With two grown ups, you're going to find it a bit cramped. I have to sit too far forward for my liking. We don't ride double often so when we do, I take the box off which is more comfortable for both of us. I would look into an aftermarket seat if you ride double alot but it is no where near as convenient as the lock and ride. It is very slick.

Check out my pics. I made my own Lock-N-Ride. It has never come loose. It is bigger than the Polaris product. It has a built in back rest. Cheaper too. $150 for the Tamarack box, $15 straps at Wal-Mart! The box covers the rear seat portion, about 1.5". So seat removal requires removal of the box. Which I only remove to clean the quad. I have no need in getting under the seat on the trails. Several 50 mile rides with no problems!
