I put new buttons in and was wondering if I should somehow sand out the grooves in the helix? What causes grooves I had plenty of the button left.

 

There shouldn't be any grooves?? Did you buy your quad new? MAybe the previous owner had the same problem but didn't fix it all of the way?? Sanding them out can be done but it depends on how bad it is you need to be carefull that you do not change the surface angle or ramp angle of the helix this will affect performance and if all three towers on the helix have different angles it will wear out the buttons you just replaced even faster.

 

1 more thing to avoid this problem all together you can put on a team rapid reaction secondary clutch. You will never have to worry about htis cluthc breaking anything, it will also give you better acceleration and backshift too.

 

This is the EPI(sorry) sport utility clutch kit I am the orginal owner and the grooves are mild not sharp engraved grooves. I looked to see if the grooves were on the stock helix and they were. When I put the kit in 3 or 4 years ago I flipped the buttons. Light sanding by hand and I think I can get them out.

 

And by the way I was thinking of the hot seat performance at the time. I did buy the chromemoly steering post.

 

No problem its a free country. We jsut don't want someone to get a bad taste in there mouth about any aftermarket prioducts because they will think all products will fail or not work since they had problems in the past. Use you best judgement on the helix it sounds like you will be ok. Maybe take a pic of it and post it so we can see exactly how bad it is?
