Machining Scrambler case for low range?
#1
I know aboot swapping cases - but a few yrs ago I remember someone posted some pics of the case that [I believe] showed that the cases were identical and that the work simply needed finished and other shafts/gears/bearings added.
I could doo the machining myself if this is true. How aboot the cost of the needed extree parts?
Has anyone done this? Which is more cost effective?
Also - I would prolly want to doo this to a Trailblazer case too. No 4wd - but planning on riding to 14K' and the Scrambler needed a tow job last yr for the last 1000' or so - so I would suspect that the Trailblazers won't make it w/o a low gear either. ???
Lookin' to take the kids next yr...

Try partsland.com - they have a parts breakdown for all models and years. You can find the parts youll need and price them also.
Keep us informed on how this mod goes. Id love to have lowrange on my scrammy.

you didn;t post make or model, but I beleive all of the 2x4 scrammys use chain drive trannys, if your 4x4 you should be ok(gear). still seems like alot of work and I would bet about the same price as just swapping trannys when all is said and done.

Yeah OK - mines a '99 with shaft front.
I can see it possibly costing more to finish mine than swap used - but just wanted to check to see if anyones ever actually done it. (Machined one out.)
