We went out riding today to try out the 400 Sportsman we just bought and had a problem with one of our 500 Scramblers. This is the 1998 Scrambler and has had a few problems in the past where the starter would not engage and just spin. Then if you hit the button again, the starter would normally engage and start the engine. But, today when I pushed the start button just some clicking sounds. this has a new batter so I knew it was not that. I started with the recoil starter and it started fine. After stopping the starter seemed to work good the next time i started it, but by the end of the day it was not working again, just making some clicking sounds.

Does this have a starter bendix like a car starter or do I just replace the entire starter motor? I have to get it fixed fast becasue we leave on our ATV riding vacation this Saturday.
