Default Questions for Sp 450/500 riders who do their own servicing

Thanks for all the input. I will drain the tank, change the filter and call it good. BTW, I am really liking my ATV! I live in a rural area where I don't even have to haul it. From my garage I have my choice of 3 creeks and can be at any of them in 5 minutes. There is no law enforcement, so no hassel about riding on the streets.
That's good news for yout then .. just be sure to ride responsibly while on the streets and don't give anyone cause to call and complain ...

ride safe and good luck with your maintenance!

I have noticed it's going to be messy when removing that filter. I do have a wrench that fits. I cut out the top half of a plastic oil bottle, leaving the neck and cap to keep from making a mess like that on my m/c. It works quite well. I just slide the bottle under the filter, loosen it and spin it off. The spillage is caught in the bottle and no mess. Last time I didn't spill a drop! Not sure what it will take for the Polaris, but I believe I can come up with something.

Well, the deed is done. When I came home from fishing this afternoon I checked and it had 20.2 hrs, so, I proceeded to change the oil and filter. Everything is easy to get to. I cut the bottom out of a 20 oz water bottle and slid it over the filter after loosening it some with the wrench. I did fold some paper towels and lay under the filter, and some oil did drip onto them, but not much. No mess to speak of. I do appreciate the help of all who responded to my post.

If I want to replace the plastic oil tank on my '06 450 with a metal tank what do I need to look for?
