You will have to spend a few bucks. I did exactly that and made my sport faster and quicker than my '91 Banshee. It took a while. I found that I could easily out-accelerate the Shee in 100 yds, but the Shee was quicker to 1/8 mile. More mods and that changed. With a very modified Shee it's realy hard to take them on very top end on a long straight run. I don't have any problem in 1/8 or less, it's usualy pretty easy.

This is becoming a moot point because of the Raptors invading the woods. I think the Banshee is a poor standard to measure against today.
