2005 800 Fuel Filter
Do you guys use the Kolpin fuel packs? I was looking at the 3.25 gallon ones, but they run 70-80 bucks. Does anyone else make anything cheaper?
Another mistake I made,, and it could be a costly one if not taken care of now is when I got the k&n air filter, I did not use a pre filter or pre charger as needed. I will probably stick with the k&n filter and get the pre filter for over it. If I still have problems with dust and dirt,,, I will go back to a stock filter. We need rain bad here.... sometimes the dust was so bad, you had to come to almost a complete stop just to see where you were going. I literally could barely see the ground right in front of my tires.
I also notice the plastic panel on the shifter side has some melting, which is causing it to suck inwards. I sent a email off to the dealer I got it from and will see what they say. If they cant or wont do anything for me, then I will try caling Polaris and doing some bitching. I got a feeling I wont get to far, but is worth trying. The black palstic where the panel snaps into also has some melting on that edge.

I carry up to 4- 1 gallon cans in my rear box ( Lock n Ride) plus a small soft sided cooler for a couple water bottles.
I haven't had any melting issues although others have, I believe there is an updated heat shield for the pipe. I installed extra heat tile on the plastic when I bought the machine....

If they wont replace it,, I will use a heat gun and get the plastic straightened back out. will add heat tape to it, and will consider wrapping the pipe with header tape where it runs close to the plastic. Just have to watch then so when I hose it off after playing in the mud, I dont take that tape off to.
I will do some researching on the fuel container. I have a rack extender on the front, so I am sure I will figure something out.

Rob, you should be able to use the sock (pre-filter) that came on your stock filter on your K&M, it’s made of the same stuff. Also, if you’re going to stick with that K&M you should use some Vaseline around the inside of the filter where connects to your air box. This will help seal that connection and keep dust from sneaking in.
Right now I’m using the Quadovator Spare Fuel Carrier for an extra gallon + of fuel but most 800s won’t get away with that because of the dual exhaust (I'm running Aaen’s single can). I’ve just ordered a couple of those Kolpin Fuel Pack Jr.s to play with, and their mounting system that has them standing up off the rack. A friend of mine (rides a Griz) had a pair of them on our last ride and it looks like one will fit nicely on each side of my rear cargo box. We’ll see.
