Warranty on a Sportsman 90 Youth Model !!!
#1
Ok, I bought a sportsman 90 for my step son. It's been well taken care of and with less than 50 hours riden on it.Cause I use the riding timer on my 330 magnum that I bought at the same time to go by when it needs to be serviced.Bought both of them June 2004.Rode them a total of 31 hours the first year.Had them serviced in 2005 with 34 hours on both.Didn't ride them very much the next year 2005 about 12 hours riding time.So had about 46 hours on them before this summer.Went to the public ATV trail here in Virginia. My stepson was in front of me on the trails. His ATV 90 went full throdel.Full speed.
throwing him off Lucky into soft clay mud & dirt. The AtV crashes into a large rock Causing damage to the Atv's right front Steering rod.Bent it like a wishbone. We were 6 to 7 miles away from my truck & trailer that I had hauled them there on.The Throdel still was acting up ??? You bearly touch it, it wants to run full speed.I take it back to the dealership on Monday.Friday is when this all happened.I told them that throdel went wide open on my step son's Atv and threw him off and then it crashed into a large Rock causing all the damage.Ok The atv was clean before we went riding. They found Mud & dirt in the cable of the throdel making it fail.Plus it didn't want to start either cause Mud and dirt had gotten up in the stator unit too.Now that could of gotten in there during the wreak. But anyway the Extended warrenty I bought is a sham !! They told the Dealership that since Mud & dirt got into the systems the Throdel body and the Stator unit that it wasn't covered !!!! I was hot !!! Cause I thought these things were for off road use and so tough
too?? Yes there was dirt and mud puddels on these trails But they don't tell the Customers that if you get Dirt & Mud in side of them Like this the warrenty won't cover the repairs !!! So Buyers Beware !!! I already wrote polairs a letter to their president/ceo.Sending them an enclosed pic. of a Sportman with mud on it from an ATV Ad on how tough their ATV's are. Well the Sportsman 90 are not.Plus the extendedwarrenty is to Laugh at too !!!
I also told Polairs I was going to sell this Sportsman 90 cause it can get dirt in the throdel again and cause it to go out of control again.Next time my Step son may not be so Lucky !! The Public needs to know how Polairs Extended warrenty is a Sham !! My Step Son's Sportsman 90 is Proof !!!! Plus if a customer Does buy a polairs ATV they need to be told NOT to ride them in the MUD & DIRT cause they can fail !!! Maybe a field or a meadow as long as no Mud & dirt to go threw !!!

Doesn't surprise me the extended warranty isn't going to cover these repairs. You hear this over and over with off road vehicles, if they find a cracked or broken part you "abused" it. A little mud in the cables, it wasn't well taken care of, etc. etc. Anything to get out of paying for warranty work for the most part. The stators on the mini Polaris quads are notorious for burning out after seeing mud/water. Actually, pretty much all of the 2 stroke minis have that same problem. Once you get everything back in working order, just make it a priority to clean and lube those cables a few times a year, try to keep the little ones out of the mud and water too. After they DO splash around some, it couldn't hurt to clean the stator up. Also a little dielectric grease on all the connectors, and liberal use of WD-40 to keep water out of other stuff may keep the broken quad blues at bay longer. Good Luck.

Hey Yamahaulin' in NY,
As to how clean the Sportsman 90 was. It was is Very clean and very good condition before went riding that day.Did you read about how low the hours were on it and who serviced it last?? The dirt & mud caused it to fail. Not how it was taken care of.But it was in very good condition before the ride that day.
