Default Fabricating a rear shock?

I have an ’04 Polaris Magnum 330. I use for scouting and hunting, that being said I am very rough on my ATV. I need a rear shock, the one I have now is collapsed. I went to the local ATV shop and he told me there was only one kind of shock for my ATV, but he could get the measurements and find a heavy duty spring, but this will cost me $400-$500. I was hoping that you guys could tell me how I could fabricate a shock/spring setup for less money? Let me know if you have any ideas that would be helpful.

Thanks in advance
David
