Default melted line under carb

I was doing some maint. on my bike and I noticed the little tube attatched to the carb under the fuel bowl was melted through from setting on the head. I'm assuming that it is just a drain tube. I cut off the melted peice and and replaced. My question is I cut off about 4 inches so it dosn't hang down as far as it did does this matter? Also would that have affected how the bike ran? I also noticed the seal between the filter housing and the big plactic nut that holds it all in place was riped and hanging. I found some dust in side the air box. I replaced the seal and wiped the air box clean. Has any one else had this problem.

Thanks in advace,

I'd suggest that you get a new peice of fuel rated hose and extend the tube to a at least the same location. If it were me I'd brint it down to the lower frame rail. It's a fule bowl overflow if your float sticks open or if you roll the bike. If that fule hits something hot enough you could have a fire between you legs. As for the seal I'm not sure since I don't ride that type of bike.
