K&N Clamp on
the K&N filters are great, though like said above they do flow more particles into the motor, but they let the most air through. we have a K&N filter on our 97 Dodge durango that was put on when it was new and the durango has had 380k miles of air sucked through that single K&N with no problem. we Also have AFE high-flow filters on our Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins and my Jeep Wrangler Rubicon.
everyone is pissy about specs of dust getting into your motor, while clean air is vital, a little bit of dust isnt going to make a big difference.
now if your in a VERY dusty area, a K&N is NOT for you. a foam filter would be much better. such as a Twin Air setup (www.nicholascycle.com)
as far as your setup, depending on elevation and climate, your probebly going to run between a 170 and a 175 main jet. i run a K&N clamp on with a White Bro's E-series pipe and use a 175 main jet.

Spider,
Switch filters and see who much longer your oil remains clear. The dust helps contiminate the oil as part of the blow buy. Also since you have a cummings I'd recomend that up upgrade to the Proguard 7 filter element. I've got a PSD and I'd run away from the K&N as it dated by todays stds. Most high quality paper filters are infact synthetic filter media and it is very efficient and is very free flowing. IMO Race motors are a different can of worms as they are torn down more fequently than the daily driver. I've seen picture of dusted trubos on the PSDs the wear is shocking because the trubine fins are sanded off the spindel from the dust let thorugh by the k&n and the high revs they make. Just my .02

Spyder is correct for this though......The twin air clamp on filter is one of the best there is......Although many people say, the K&N is good for certain things and the twin air is good for the other.......but, for the pred, the twin air is by far the best as it also gives the most power, in this case(the intake tube is the correct length for the right amount of torque).

One of the things that I like the most about K&N is the ease of cleaning and re-oiling. Just spray the filter with cleaner, let it soak for 10 minutes and rinse. Let it air-dry and then spray oil onto it. No need to wear gloves, no need to get oil all over the place, and the filter will last forever. Even if you have to clean it more often, big deal, since it's so easy to clean.
