Were you using a factory puller? That's how it comes off. I have never seen one come off with a problem unless it is a big bolt or something being used. The puller from polaris is pretty hard steel and is tapered down on the end. Imitations alot of times are too soft and can strip out and you have to cut the clutch in some cases. If you were using a jaw puller, they can snap the clutch off where the jaw is hooked on at.

You take the bolt out of the clutch in the center. The clutch is threaded on the inside and the puller threads into it and pushes against the crankshaft which pulls the clutch off

How big of a chunk broke off? If its a very big piece you should probably look it to buying another clutch. If you run it with a piece broke off it will be out of balance and eventually ruin your motor.
